Spawned in the spirit of Detroit 1966, Virginia Violet and the Rays are here to bring Motown into to the 21st century with a fresh take on a classic sound. Lead by Virginia's driving and distinct vocal style, the group proliferates an intoxicating energy reminiscent of the days when Otis Redding and Martha Reeves reign supreme.
VV and the Rays released their first four song EP in the fall of 2016 and quickly gained a reputation for their live perfomance performing at one of Detroit's top music festivals, Dally in the Alley. The band was featured on 101.9 WDET Detroit's NPR station and by local CW 50's Detroit Proud Playlist of the week.
Following the EP, the band toured the midwest in March of 2017 starting in Detroit, and ending with a sold out Chicago crowd on St. Paddy's day. After returning home, VV and the Rays have continued to captivate audiences in and around the Metro Detroit area with their upbeat and distinctive live show bringing music lovers together in a whirlwind of soul and undeniable energy. The band has since played with local soul legend Melvin Davis and has been featured in the Detroit Free Press as one of the up and coming MUST see bands of the summer.
The band is currently in the studio working on a full length album to be released in 2018, including a four piece horn section and matching suits, don't miss the baddest soul band in the land!
