Nim Vind (born Chris Kirkham) is a Canadian solo musician/artist and songwriter. He describes his sound as "Music for Outsiders". "Nim Vind" is Chris's stage name. Although born in Canada, he is a duel citizen of the USA and Canada.
Chris aka Nim, has toured in 25 countries from North America to Russia. He's performed 16 European tours and performed multiple times at major festivals such as Germany's Summer Breeze Open Air and the Wave Gotik Treffen, plus American festivals like Tiger Army's October Flame. 2018 was his last full length 80 concert North American tour. His last European tour was 2023 in support of his "Anthology 1" Vinyl licensed to Sunny Bastards Recs Germany. He is constantly releasing new singles including 2024's
"Sagittarius A" . A new full length is coming this 2025.
Chris has represented Canadian art from more than a decade as Nim Vind with zero support from Canadian grant foundations, managers, publicists or labels. He's done all this as a self-produced, self funded musician.
As a true outsider his efforts were recognised by American music founders and industry tastemakers such as Todd Rundgren(Platinum Artist and Producer), Jon Zazula (Megaforce Records Founder, Metallica) and Eric Gardner (LA manager of Paul Shaffer, Todd Rundgren, E-Street Band). He was managed by Jon and Eric and had his song "Astronomicon" mixed by Todd Rundgren and premiered by Alternative Press USA.
Nim Vind has released three albums: The Fashion of Fear (2005) on Fiendforce Records Germany and House of Vind Music(self imprint), The Stillness Illness (2009) on Silverdust Records and Soulfood Distro/House of Vind Music, and Saturday Night Séance Songs (2014) on House of Vind with Allegro USA distro. Séance for short, features mixes from LA producer Jay Ruston( Steel Panther, Slayer) and Todd Rundgren. Saturday Night Séance Songs was "Album of the Year" in Rue Morgue Magazine (world's
largest horror movie/alternative print mag with international distro). It was the only award winner in the Rue Morgue 2014 series that wasn't on a major label or associated with a major company. Nim has enjoyed features in Metal Hammer UK, Maximum Rock n Roll, Gothic Beauty, Zillo Magazine Germany, Sonic Seducer Germany and Germany's biggest heavy music site Metal.de – giving a 10/10 star review - to name a few.
As the son of a Symphony musician Chris's musical tastes are varied and this is reflected in his music as Nim Vind. NV for short, has no specific genre but is sometimes referred to as Punk in press. Nim Vind has beencompared to the vocal stylings of Glenn Danzig and the Misfits, David Bowie, and Volbeat in the press.
"Nim Vind" is a made up name out of a combination of sounds and symbols. Specifically it is to be thought of as a character's name. A definition of "Nim Vind" is freedom by insanity. "Nim" borrows symbolism from the acronym for the National Institute of Mental Health or N.I.M.H. "Vind" borrows symbolism from the word "vindication", representing justification against denial or censure. Another definition is "aNIMal VINDication".
Referred to by his long-time Engineer Doug Fury(Bif Naked) as "Artist 2.0" for his forward-thinking D.I.Y strategies, Chris is constantly inventing new ways to promote and develop Nim Vind for big-time results on a small-time budget.
"I learned to do it myself, mostly because I knew nobody else was going to help me. I own all my own music, met most of my heros and made it all the way to Russia...so far"
