Cari Cari

Tuesday, March 18 - Doors 7pm - $17 adv.

Cari Cari is Stephanie Widmer (Vocals, Drums & Didgeridoo) and Alexander Koeck (Vocals, Guitars). The duo lived in London, Hamburg and Madrid before releasing their debut album "Anaana". They were called "the lovechild of The Kills and The xx" (Indie Shuffle, US) "with the raw grit of a Cat Power record" (Bes tBefore, AUS) and "a pinch of Ennio Morricone " (FM4, AUT). Since their inception, Cari Cari have been tirelessly working to create their own world, carefully crafting everything from their music to their artwork, videos to set design in-house. This meticulous attention to detail has earned the band a loyal following; Rolling Stone Magazine called them 'the biggest discovery of Primavera Sound Festival', their die-hard fans sold out 1000+ capacity rooms across Europe and their debut album was praised by the likes of NME, KCRW, Rolling Stone, BBC Radio 1 and many more.

Cari Cari's third studio album, One More Trip Around The Sun, is more than just a collection of songs: it's an ode to growing older, a love letter to family and friends, and a promise to stay true to oneself and one's values - to avoid fleeting trends and instead swim resolutely against the current.

From the very beginning, Cari Cari has gone against the grain. Despite a forthcoming world tour in spring 2025, with shows across Europe and the US, and praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Rolling Stone ("Cari Cari are the biggest discovery of Primavera Sound Barcelona") and NME, the band remains a family-run operation - without a record deal, management or publisher. They embrace DIY at its finest: album covers, merchandise and stage designs are designed by Stephanie, the music is recorded in their own studio and the online shop is run by Stephanie's mother, with everything shipped from their grandparents' garage.

Standing up for their values

Cari Cari have demonstrated their commitment to their values, most notably when they publicly criticised the shamefully low fees paid to orchestral musicians (€30 per night) during a live TV broadcast. The accompanying video went viral and sparked a broad cultural debate. As a result, Austria allocated an additional €25 million to ensure minimum wages for artists under the 'Fair Pay' initiative - a tangible success that demonstrates the power of music to inspire change.

About the album

One More Trip Around The Sun was born out of a crisis of purpose, triggered by the endless pursuit of "more". "It doesn't feel much different whether there are 15,000 people in front of the stage at Southside Festival or 500 in a small venue. We have chased one success after another. Millions listen to our music every month, but in the end it's the experiences and connections that matter - not the statistics.

The album explores themes of love, childhood, the places the band call home, the ever-accelerating wheel of time and the relentless flood of bad news. Alexander Köck and Stephanie Widmer reflect on their fears and the joy of creating for the sake of creating.

The record stays true to Cari Cari's unmistakable sound: the signature mix of jaw harp, didgeridoo and their unique sonic universe - a clear stand against fleeting musical trends. Each track weaves seamlessly into their soundscapes, which are richer and more intricate than ever before.

Music with heart and soul

Their third studio album is Cari Cari's way of saying "no": no to assholes, major labels and a system that forgets the people behind the art. It's a resounding yes to their vision, to music that feels authentic, and to the people who matter most to them - which is why their family and friends grace the album cover.
